“Bread Freedom and Justice”, the original slogan of the revolution was a unifying chant that resonated with every Egyptian, and doesn’t refer to personalities or parties, but to policies.
These words inspired the whole nation, and shook the global power system, because they refer to policy goals that are in direct conflict with the policy goals of neoliberalism.
This slogan was replaced with divisive, party- and personality-centered slogans, which completely obscure the fundamental issues of deprivation, oppression, and injustice. Why should the deprived, oppressed and victims of injustice stand with you?
The slogan isn’t the point, but the goals it represents. If you focus on the original goals, you will return to policy demands, you will return to what actually matters.
