It is significant that the resistance in Latin America to the Neoliberal onslaught was largely organized and inspired by what was called “Liberation Theology,” led by radical Catholic priests like Oscar Romero.
This concept was based on an attempt to return to the original message of Prophet Jesus (‘alayhi Salaam), and it was ferociously condemned by the church, and obviously by the United States and the corporate elite.
Even though the original Injeel was altered and the religion of Jesus was unknown to these people, nevertheless something in the Fitrah of human beings instinctively leads them to know, when they suffer brutality and oppression, that the solution is to follow the Prophets.
We are now confronted with an even more powerful neoliberal crusade, and, al-Hamdulillah, we have with us the original message, the complete Deen, the perfect example in our Prophet (SallAllahu ‘alayhi wa Sallam), and the triumphant formula of adherence to the Qur’an and Sunnah.
We are the most worthy to battle against the corporate tawagheet, and to liberate not only ourselves from their tyranny, but to lead the exploited and oppressed populations of the world out of enslavement to other people and back to the worship of their Creator.
Just as the populations under the tyranny of the Persian and Roman Empires embraced Islam, not because of our military prowess but because of our principles and integrity and our insistence on fairness in all matters including economic justice; so, insha’Allah, our defeat of corporate imperialism will open the hearts of oppressed people everywhere to the Light of Islam. Aameen ya Rabb!
