The basic principle has always been that whoever seeks a position of authority should not be given it. The entire basis for Islamism is seeking positions of authority. The rationale for this ambition is that the Islamists will rule according to the Shari’ah, and therefore, it is righteous ambition. But, even if they attain their desired positions, the hadith of Rasulullah ﷺ will overtake them, and they will be from the Mulk Jabaryy.

I don’t know a better example of this than the Islamist experience in Egypt, actually.

It seems to me, in this phase of our Ummah’s history the most Islamic position is to be anti-State. We are in the age of illegitimate authority.
