Realistic discussion about the causes and mechanisms of oppression, discussion of practical strategies that can work on the ground, are discussions which have a very limited audience.
For many people, there is something consoling about feeling powerless; it relieves them of responsibility to take action.
Setting vague preconditions for success, like “unity” or “awareness” , are equivalent to renouncing action because they are unattainable conditions; or anyway, they are conditions which cannot be quantified so that we may know at which point there is sufficient “awareness” or enough “unity” to enable us to take action.
These impossible preconditions are a form of procrastination not preparation.
And many people find it consoling to be told there is nothing they can do because it means there is nothing they have to do.
If you only want to complain about the situation, you will find many with you. If you want to change the situation, you will find fewer people who will join you.
