The main pillars of the Neoliberal program are:

–Deregulation
–Privatization
–Cuts in government social spending

The theory is that these measures create a dynamic competitive market, increase efficiency of services, trim wasteful spending, and boost economic growth. That’s the sales pitch. The theory has become like a sacred dogma despite the fact that its effects are the complete opposite of what it promises.

Latin America was the laboratory for Neoliberalism for decades, so we can see clearly the real impact of the policies.

In fact, we can understand the real intention of these policies precisely because of the first region that was targeted by them, and who promoted them.

The US pushed for Neoliberal reforms in Latin America as part of its permanent policy goal of dominating the Western Hemisphere; and it worked.

While technically an economic program, Neoliberalism has essentially a political agenda of reducing the state’s power and responsibility for the society, essentially making it a mechanism for serving business interests. The main remaining function of the state under Neoliberal policy is security; repression of the population.

This repression is necessary because, of course, Neoliberalism increases the general misery in society, and creates unbearable conditions which inevitably lead to unrest.

Income disparity, unemployment, inflated costs for food and fuel, fewer opportunities for small and medium sized businesses, higher taxes; more money flowing out of the economy than into it, etc; all of these are the real effects of Neoliberalism.

The policy is essentially covert conquest. Neoliberalism is the corporate occupation of a country, and it is far more destructive and oppressive than military occupation.
