Remember, investment is not aid. It is not a monetary grant given by generous businessmen to help your economy thrive. Investment is about making profit for investors; nothing else.
Now, consider that a decent return on investment, the moderate annual profit expected to make an investment worthwhile, is around 8%. That means that investors in these projects will be anticipating a return of roughly $2 billion in profit from their purchases at the Summit. That is $2 billion of profit flowing out of the Egyptian economy every year, not into it.
To ensure that minimum level of profitability, jobs will be cut, not created, wages will be suppressed, not increased, competition from local business will be undermined, not encouraged.
