The military’s stake in Egypt’s economy was the reason for the Coup. The military’s stake in the economy is the reason why the army has occupied Egypt on behalf of multinationals and foreign investors. The military’s stake in the economy is what has turned the army into private mercenaries guarding the interests of the Officer-CEOs who are leading the collaboration with corporate imperialists, instead of guarding the republic.
Unless and until the military divests from the private sector, this will continue to be the scenario. It makes more sense, in my opinion, to fight against the army’s economic holdings than to fight against their security apparatus.
Target their factories and distribution centers, their manufacturing capabilities, their supply chain, and their partners. This will be much more of a blow than targeting checkpoints or police stations.
