A friend and brother here in Turkey who is just beginning boxing lessons has started to join me for fight conditioning to supplement his training. As always, I begin with exhausting the legs, before carrying on with the rest of the workout. We then did some boxing footwork drills, and some basic punching skills.
Most boxing students want to move directly into sparring, but it is crucial to get in condition first. After completing the leg workout, the brother was already getting lightheaded and weak. If you can’t fight when you are exhausted, you shouldn’t fight, because in a real fight, exhaustion sets in very quickly. You need to develop the stamina necessary to continue exerting energy after you feel that you have no energy left.
