A brother requested that we post clips demonstrating fighting techniques which can neutralize an opponent without using lethal force. I hesitate to do this as it is not the actual purpose of the Conflict Fitness project to provide combat instructions, but only to help improve the health and conditioning of opposition activists and revolutionaries to enable them to perform better during confrontations and disruption operations.
In the past, I have suggested the ideal striking points which can usually drop an opponent, and recommended that you focus on developing your ability to throw strikes. I reiterate here that you really only need to perfect two or three basic punches to be effective in a fight.
I do not recommend studying the complex moves usually taught in martial arts like Kung Fu, Systema or Krav Maga, unless you intend to study and train for years and many hours a day until the movements become reflexive for you.
Something like Jiu Jitsu is practical and useful, however, as I have said before, if you are in a street fight and you have to resort to grappling and wrestling, you are in a very dangerous situation because the fight has become prolonged, and there is time and likelihood that multiple attackers will join the conflict, particularly if you are fighting the police or private security guards. You need to be able to strike and either end the fight quickly, or create an opportunity to escape. For this, again, a few strong, precise strikes should suffice.
My only additional advice would be to practice open palm strikes instead of clenched fist punching, as you are less likely to injure yourself when you strike with your palm. I have seen several people fracture their hands in a fight because their punches didn’t land correctly, hitting their opponent’s forehead instead of his eye, for instance.
