The point isn’t really that we obviously, and of course, resent the fact that the whole world is expected to pause and mourn, console France and condemn the attacks, while attacks of a similar scale are carried out against Muslims every day, both by the French, and by the group alleged to have carried out the Paris attacks, and no one is expected to pause and mourn, no one consoles us and the attacks are not condemned. This isn’t really the point.

The real issue is that we are expected to convey our humanity and sympathy, and affirm the sanctity of the lives of innocent civilians to a people who do not share these sentiments and principles. When terrorists murder Western civilians, well, they are terrorists. But more often than not, our civilians are murdered by Western states as a matter of official policy. Killing us is what they sincerely believe in, and that is demonstrated by their actions as well as their rhetoric.

If 1.6 billion Muslims, most of whom are victimized either through direct military violence, or through economic and political repression by Western powers, and who therefore have every reason to feel hostility towards the West; if those Muslims did not believe in the sanctity of innocent civilian lives, there would be no innocent civilians left alive in the West at all. Our actions demonstrate our belief in preserving the lives of the innocent, even as our innocent are savaged every day. We do not see any practical indication that the West shares our belief, however;rather, what we see is that the proponents of peace among them are approximately proportionate to the minuscule number of proponents of violence within our Ummah.

It makes no sense to declare to people who are fundamentally committed to violence that we denounce violence. They live precisely because of our denunciation of violence, and our overwhelming sense of compassion and forgiveness, our reasonableness and restraint.

There is no need to declare to them that these are our virtues and principles, their lives themselves prove it; while conversely, our lives, the terror and oppression of our lives, proves quite irrefutably that the West does not possess these virtues and principles.
