Special note on Situational Awareness for Sisters.
As I have mentioned previously, the hijab and the niqaab can often restrict your peripheral vision, so, when you are outside always try to look around you. Turn your head. Be aware of people walking up behind you or walking next to you. Carry your handbag with the strap across your body, not hanging on your shoulder. If you are carrying your baby, pushing a baby carriage, or have small children with you, I am sorry to say, this makes you extremely vulnerable. Your hands are not free, your mobility is hindered, and you can neither chase anyone nor run away from an attacker. Whenever possible, if you must go out with your children, be accompanied by your husband or brother, or by another sister.
Try to notice anyone on the street who seems to either by aimlessly meandering about, or who has positioned himself at a fixed location from which he can monitor the crowd. If someone is walking next to you, mirroring your pace, stop suddenly, and see what they will do. Do they stop also? Do they hesitate for a moment when you stop, and then continue walking? If so, do they only walk a short distance and then stop, for instance, to look in a shop window, attend to their phone, tie their shoe, etc…Pay attention. It may be nothing, it may also be either a potential attacker, or possibly someone following you with the intention of knowing your residence or your routine or your normal routes, in order to target you at another time.
May Allah protect you all
