Question :
we have a Plan B as we work on Plan A?? I’m frankly overwhelmed by the extent of – not just ignorance but stubbornness – of so many intellects in realizing the looming evil of neoliberalism and multi-nationals on the past/present/future of this nation. We need a Plan B or a transition to Plan A.
Answer :
I am not sure what Plan A is. If Plan A is undertaking a campaign of disruption against multinationals and foreign investments, and giving them policy ultimatums compliance with which will be the only way they can be allowed to do business in Egypt; and if this plan does not come to fruition, Plan B can only be a long term grassroots effort to educate and organize the population.
And by “the population” I mean just that. I do not mean the groups, parties, and so-called intellectuals. I mean the masses; most of whom do not belong to any group, and most of whom are anti-secular and anti-neoliberal. I mean workers, farmers, labor unions, students, small business owners, etc.
It may well be that Egypt will have to go through the same torturous evolution of awareness that Latin America had to go through before they understand the true nature of their dilemma. I dearly hope that this will not be the case, but I am afraid that the stubbornness you alluded to has made most of the major factions obstacles to awareness rather than conduits of understanding. This is why I feel that the organized parties need to be more or less discarded.
