Giulio Regeni was in Egypt researching independent labor unions, from what I have read. He was most likely a leftwing anti-neoliberal interested in Egypt’s long history of workers’ organizing . He was against the Coup, pro-labor and a young man interested in the rights of the poor and workers, no doubt. He was unquestionably tortured and murdered by state security, just as young people like him were tortured and murdered by Western-backed, corporate -sponsored dictatorships throughout Latin America in the 1970s and 80s.
