There is apparently a campaign to super glue the card slots of ATMs in Egypt as a tactic for disrupting multinational banks. There will be a degree of loss imposed on such banks by this, through loss of use and cost of repair, but anyone undertaking it should focus on ATMs in tourist areas and expatriate neighbourhoods, to minimise disruption for the general public who need to use the machines and whose cards could be damaged if they try to use them. Also, you should bear in mind that ATMs are fitted with cameras, so take precautions.
It would be just as doable to spray paint the screens black and the cameras as well…this would incur more repair cost and also alert people not to try to use the machines before they put their cards in.
