When a people are given to sin and corruption, they are less likely and less capable to fight the tyrant who rules them, as they have become undisciplined, lost their integrity, and their hearts are weakened by impurities. This is how sin defeats a people. It makes them selfish, immature and cowardly. Such a people cannot endure the difficulty of struggling against oppression, as they have already surrendered in this struggle against their own desires. The self-oppressed can’t liberate anyone.
