OK…so the main leaders of the Ikhwan are in jail, and those leading the organisation now are not the best qualified. That is what we are told to rationalize the incompetence of the MB since the Coup.
But the leaders in prison now…aren’t they the same ones who requested millions of dollars from the IMF, after pledging never to do so?
Aren’t they the same ones who committed to the neoliberal reforms?
Aren’t they the same ones who solicited foreign investors to such an extent that US congress members said they sounded like Republicans?
Aren’t they the same ones who flooded the tunnels between Gaza and Rafah?
Aren’t they the same ones who imposed curfews on shops and restaurants without tourist licenses to lower energy consumption?
Aren’t they the same leaders who drew up a constitution that dramatically extended the army’s powers, including the right to try civilians in military courts?
Does it really make sense to say that the incompetence of the Muslim Brotherhood today is because of the absence of these leaders? Is the most valuable player on your team the one who drops the ball?
