Whenever someone tells me “you sound like…” and then they mention some party or group, like the Ikhwan, Nour Party, or Da’esh, etc, this reveals the intellectual stagnation that occurs when groups dominate religious and sociopolitical discourse. All thought must be categorized according to group affiliation before anyone can process it; which, of course, means they will not process it at all. They see enough keywords or phrases which they associate with a particular group, and then put you in that box. If they think they have understood the thinking of that group, they assume they understand your thinking, because they have put you in that group’s box. This process is initiated, obviously, once they discover that you do not belong in the box they themselves are in; so they start to immediately figure out which box you belong to, this saves them the trouble of trying to comprehend what you may actually be saying. They will not scrutinize what you say, because they have already given up the habit of intellectual scrutiny as soon as they put themselves in a particular box. Their box contains the truth, and there is nothing else to say.
