What is an explicit ayah of the Qur’an as opposed to an ayah which is subject to interpretation?
When you read an ayah and think to yourself, “I think this means such and such”, well, that thought process itself means the ayah is not explicit, because if it is explicit, you will not have to deduce the meaning. For example, when Allah tells you that it is forbidden to eat pigs, ok, that is explicit; you don’t have to think about it.
The same goes for hadiths. When Rasululah ï·º told you that five prayers are obligatory for you, that is explicit. No thought required. Five means five.
The ayaat and hadiths which require the fuqaha to explain are, by definition, not explicit. One interpretation may be stronger than another, but, at the end of the day, it is an interpretation; it may be correct, and it may be incorrect. Thus, we should not treat such matters as absolute.
