Honestly, I am at a loss for words to describe my admiration for the people of this country. Without any build-up, without any momentum, without rallying calls over Facebook days or weeks in advance,, without a period of mounting tension and emotion which could lead to an eruption of popular protest; the Turks came out last night. They came out suddenly, many of them literally throwing off the blankets in their beds where they were laying down to sleep after a hard day’s work, they came out into the streets, by their thousands, all ages, all political affiliations, in the dead of night, to face tanks and helicopters and fighter jets, to defend their government.
And today they are back at work. No fanfare, no self-congratulations, no fuss.
If the US ever fantasized in their wildest dreams about ever invading Turkey; last night has surely cured them of this mental illness. This whole nation is an army.
