The dominant powers in the world today are not states. That is not to day that there are not powerful states; there are, but they are subordinate to powers greater than themselves. That includes the United States.
The power of states is mobilized to serve the interests and agendas of private power; states have become instruments wielded by the global owners of capital. This is why it is no longer accurate to portray our struggle as being a struggle against America, or even against the West.
The US and other western governments, yes, are extremely powerful instruments, but they are instruments nonetheless, controlled by coalitions of business and financial institutions, which are themselves instruments controlled by their shareholders and owners. The economic 1% sit on the throne of global power today, and that throne is not fixed to any nation, and every nation under their super-sovereignty is a subject nation. No one, no population, is insulated and protected against their reign of exploitation, deprivation, and parasitic greed.
It is important to grasp this reality. We have no dispute with any population that is suffering what we are suffering too. Punishing the people for what their governments do, while their governments are not doing it for their sake, but rather upon the orders of corporate shareholders, is not only unjust, but counter-productive.
The truth is, if we can see it, despite our religious differences, on a practical level, we have common cause with 99% of the global population, who are themselves oppressed and marginalized and disempowered and enslaved to the financial elite. We should be building bridges with any group, any organization, any movement that is trying to develop resistance to neoliberalism, Austerity, and the domination of corporate power.
And if we do the necessary intellectual work, and craft a real political platform for Islamism, and we implement a sound strategy against capitalist imperialism, the message of Islam will move across those bridges and you will see oppressed populations everywhere embracing the religion of Truth, precisely because it offers true solutions to the misery we are all facing.
