It is important for us to maintain a view that reflects the historical reality, the past history and the future history, of this Ummah. We have been here for over 1,400 years, and we know that we will be here until the Last Day. Our enemies have shorter past histories, and they will have shorter future histories, and they operate according to a perspective that reflects their transience. America, for instance, is just over 200 years old as an independent country; so for them, a century is a very long time, and they overestimate its importance and misinterpret what it means.
We have seen many centuries, and we will see many more. We have seen conquerors march against us, and we have watched them depart. We have seen world powers ascend and descend. We have seen countries created, nationalities invented, and we have seen them dissolve. We have seen the people organize themselves in various ways, giving themselves names and titles, and they have their moments, but they all inevitably evaporate soon after their creation. We tell time by a calendar, and they tell time by a stopwatch.
Allah has named us “Muslims” and this is what we will always be. Our Ummah is the one unchanging, permanent population on this earth.
We are here to stay.
