It seems to me that “hope” is a non-issue, at best, and a pacifying narcotic at worst. What has hope got to doing what you must?
You are obliged to struggle, to fight, to work, to oppose injustice and tyranny. You don’t fight an opponent who is attacking you because you believe you can win; you fight because you have no choice. And you don’t stop fighting because you believe you can’t win; you have no choice because the opponent won’t stop just because you stop.
Giving up is not an option, if you want someone to care how you “feel” about it, find a therapist.
Hope, despair, optimism, pessimism, are irrelevant. Take whatever attitude you like, feel any way you want; but do your duty
