What does it mean to shift our activism towards the private sector rather than directing it towards government, to reflect the transfer of power and authority from the political sphere into the economic sphere?
Many things.
Conventional political lobbying can be redirected towards corporate CEOs and shareholders rather than politicians.
Public demonstrations and protests can be held at corporate headquarters and facilities rather than in public squares or outside of government offices.
Human Rights organizations can begin delivering their reports to company presidents and boards of directors, they can meet with them and call upon them to suspend cooperation with tyrannical regimes
We can demand full disclosure of the minutes of meetings held between politicians and business people, and full disclosure of the internal meetings of the IMF and any meetings they hold with governments and corporations
And, of course, we can utilize the weapon of disruption of corporate operations to inflict loss on their profitability and efficiency while demanding they use their influence to support the will and aspirations of the population
Basically, any form of social and political activism, any revolutionary activity, can be redirected towards the real existing power structure; towards business; towards multinational corporations and financial institutions.
This can be done, and this is what must be done, if we hope to achieve any concrete results
