It is amazing to me that the “Ghalabah” movement, and the organizers, and promoters of the planned 11/11 protests are remaining completely silent about the IMF loan and the policy conditions it will impose on Egypt. How on earth can you claim to be a poor people’s campaign and have nothing to say about policies that will drastically increase poverty, intensify the suffering of the poor, permanently sabotage the economy, and turn Egypt into a plantation of debt slavery?
Is it because they don’t know about it? Is it because they do not understand the ramifications of this loan? If so, what credibility do they have as advocates for the poor when they are so dismally uninformed about the most important reasons for their poverty, and the greatest threats to their financial future?
Is it because they just want to focus on Sisi? Brothers and Sisters, the economic sovereignty and political independence of Egypt is being sold to foreign investors and multinational corporations for $12 billion. At that point, it doesn’t matter if Sisi sits in the presidential palace, or a cardboard cutout. You will be ruled by corporate shareholders, pure and simple, and they will drain every drop of sweat, blood, and tears from Egypt just to make a profit.
If you are a real Poor People’s Movement, you will be opposing the IMF loan, you will be fighting to keep food and fuel subsidies, you will fighting against the VAT tax, you will be fighting against devaluation of the Egyptian Pound, you will be fighting against privatization and cuts to social spending. If you are not doing this, you are not a Poor People’s Movement. Not at all.
