Trump and the rise of the Right-wing globally represents a disastrous counter-revolution against the billionaires’ revolution of the past several decades. This counter-revolution is inevitable, but it is not inevitable that it be disastrous.
If Islamists finally undertake the serious intellectual work of developing actual policy alternatives, we can present a political and economic program that will appeal to the disempowered masses, Muslim and non-Muslin, and divert them away from radical Right -wing populists whose fascist, racist positions they do not like, but whose economic promises inspire hope.
