Again, the talk about overthrowing the regime makes me nervous. I understand why they would want this, and why they would call for it; but I really do not think it is a wise strategy. Focus on policy demands, the anti-Austerity platform, etc. And if you are going to seek the overthrow of the government, ensure that you have a unified opposition party with a clear policy agenda.
The West will never support this agenda; any signals of grudging approval by the West for Bashir is based on his embrace of neoliberalism and Austerity. If the West gives any support to the opposition for the toppling of Bashir, it will be only to allow them to remove any investment restrictions imposed because of his presence. In other words, getting rid of Bashir with Western support will only make matters worse.
It would be very easy for them to back the opposition in the name of “democracy” and your calls for social justice, to remove Bashir, only to replace him with a corporate puppet.
