One of the most reliable ways to understand whose interests are at stake in any policy decision, you can research which political think tanks have been active advocates of the policy, and then see who funds that think tank.
One of the principle think tanks that has been calling for the lifting of sanctions against Sudan has been the Cato Institute, which was founded and largely funded by the Koch brothers, whose company, Koch Industries, is the second largest private company in the United States. Koch Industries’ annual revenue is roughly double the entire GDP of Sudan.
The company is involved in a variety of industries, from oil refining to manufacturing, from minerals to fertilizers. They own several subsidiaries from various industrial sectors, and clearly would have a good deal to gain by ventures in Sudan.
It would be useful for the opposition in Sudan to begin communicating with Koch Industries, and their subsidiaries; conveying popular demands and informing them that any foreign investment in Sudan will be subject to disruption if the companies disregard the will and aspirations of the people.
