There is a lot of discussion about how immigrants, and Muslim immigrants in particular, are “changing” the culture and values in the West. This is interesting. By and large, Muslims do not campaign to change laws to accommodate them, do not oppose fundamental moral values, they do not dominate media programming, and have a very limited presence in academia to influence opinion.
It would seem more appropriate to have this discussion about homosexuals. Their activism has been aggressive, and they have worked blatantly to change the core values of the West, they are conspicuously present in the media, and in academia; and they have, in fact, dramatically impacted the culture. In the 1960s and 70s, gay marriage was unthinkable. Homosexuality was regarded as a psychological disorder. Today, being gay is treated almost as a virtue. Expressing disapproval of homosexuality is regarded as “hate speech”, even though just a short time ago, the overwhelming majority of people were repulsed by it, and most people still are. But gays have actively, overtly, campaigned to change the culture until what used to be held in contempt is now literally celebrated.
How on earth can Muslims be accused of “threatening the cultural identity” of the West, while we embrace essentially the same conservative moral values as the majority of the population; but homosexuals are not regarded as posing a cultural threat, though they impose an acceptance of what the majority rejects?
