Trump won because of a mobilized fringe element against a general electorate that was just disgusted by the whole political system. His election does not represent a popular mandate for his policies at all. There is no “Trump Movement”…there is tremendous disappointment and disillusionment with the political process, and the absence of real democracy. Trump is actually at odds with the views of the majority of the population.
Even his proposed wall along the Mexican border is not supported by the very states that lie along the border.
The rise globally of the Far Right has very little to do with support for their positions, and everything to do with people’s disgust and sense of betrayal about the lack of any real democratic representation.
