It doesn’t matter to me if power is in the hands of the public sector or the private sector, as long as there are mechanisms for accountability. Frankly, the ascendancy of multinational corporations as super-sovereign entities creates an even greater opportunity for the democratisation of power; but it requires us to adjust our thinking, and re-organise the way we seek redress of our grievances.
We have to organise as consumer and worker constituencies, rather than electoral constituencies. Instead of demanding political parties adopt platforms that reflect our concerns and aspirations, we have to demand this from corporations, in exchange for our brand loyalty.
