Corporate social responsibility means little without public accountability. Consumers need to realize their role in corporate policy; we have more power than shareholders. Without the democratization of corporate power, it will always be at any company’s discretion whether or not to use their influence in society, and over state policy, in ways that benefit the community and reflect the concerns of the population. They are far too powerful, both economically and politically, for this to be the case. They are giants walking among us, with the power to harm or help; which they do cannot be left to their own private, unaccountable decision-making process.
