I used to know a lesbian, and she told me how much she hated being told by people who disapproved of her lifestyle “hate the sin but not the sinner”. It is a common Christian statement used to express disdain for an action while still expressing love and respect for the person committing it. And here you see why it became important to the gay community to begin defining homosexuality as an IDENTITY rather than as an action. Disapproval of an action is anyone’s right, but disapproving of an identity is bigotry by definition.
