It is all well and good to be inspired by virtuous motives to engage in an issue, to try to work for a solution; but one has to be very careful about assigning virtue to whatever solutions you may propose. Once you have decided, for your own virtuous or moral reasons, to become involved in an issue; at that point, you need to more or less shed this mentality and operate in a more utilitarian fashion. I think ideals become kind of ominous when you start thinking they are achievable ends rather than aspirational guides for regulating your own behaviour.
