To be honest, I don’t really see the usefulness, or even the log…

Posted on September 11, 2017 by Shahid Bolsen

To be honest, I don’t really see the usefulness, or even the logic of demanding Aung San Suu Kyi return the Nobel Peace Prize.

She was given the prize for what she did preceding it, not for the expectation of what she might do afterwards. The only person who was given a Nobel Peace Prize in that manner was Barack Obama; and yeah, THAT one should be returned for sure.

What is the idea here anyway? That she will make an about-face and end the genocide so she can keep the prize?
Really?

And if the point is just to express how much everyone reviles her now, ok…she is reviled, and deserves to be, but how does that help anyone?

There are plenty of people who proved unworthy of the Peace Prize after receiving it, and who never deserved it in the first place (Kissinger comes immediately to mind). So it can’t be that we are concerned about tainting the reputation of the Nobel Committee.

Just seems like a kind of pointless waste of energy to me.
