Western colonialism in the Muslim world, from Algeria to India, pre-dates the demise of the Ottoman Khilafah; in some cases by a very long time. The “Islamic” empire was not saved by the characterisation of it being “Islamic”. We would do well to remember that. The system fell apart despite implementing Shari’ah, although the Islamists dislike it.
