Sheikha Latifa Al Maktoum disappeared on March 4th 2018 after making a distressed call to Detained in Dubai saying that the boat she was on had been boarded amidst gunfire. Detained in Dubai thereafter filed missing persons reports with relevant authorities in several different countries. As Latifa was, in her own words, “escaping” from Dubai, clearly, she should have already been classified by the UAE as missing several days prior. No reports of this nature were filed, however. Rather, the UAE began publishing old news about a different daughter of Sheikh Mohamed also named Latifa, as if to obscure any attention from the disappearance.
Imagine if we were talking about the family member of any monarch or world leader. Anyone who was actually a free person, and who was a member of an influential, wealthy family; she could not go missing for a matter of hours before it would raise alarm bells. Prince William, Prince Harry, Ivanka Trump, Malia Obama; their absence would be noticed immediately by dozens of people, and there would be a huge wave of public concern.
Remember, Latifa was missing from the UAE several days, perhaps weeks, before her video was ever released making allegations against Sheikh Mohamed, yet still, the UAE did not acknowledge her disappearance. If we can assume that they do not want to acknowledge it now because of her video, why did they not acknowledge it before they even knew such a video existed? If her allegations in that video were false, why was there not a natural reaction from the Dubai royal family seeking information on Latifa’s whereabouts; as you would expect from ANY family?
