I was a fan of McGregor because of the promise of his innovative fighting style. He has not lived up to that promise. I lost a great deal of respect for him as a fighter with the Mayweather fiasco. As a fight promoter, he is superb; he brings the audience. But increasingly he has not even been innovative in how to do that…relying too heavily on arrogance, trash-talking, and personal insults. I get it; that sells tickets and pay per view subscriptions. I do not doubt that this is a character Conor plays, and that it probably bears little resemblance to the man he actually is. But it is not necessary, particularly at his level of celebrity, to take the low road to profits….EVERY time.
Brother Khabib, dominated Conor in ever round. He even held his own in the striking game. As far as I am concerned, nothing can tarnish his decisive victory; he’s the Champ.
Obviously, he should not have done what he did after the bout; he forced McGregor to tap out; which was surely sufficient humiliation. He knows he shouldn’t have done it, and he should know that he will be subject to a double-standard. And I do not believe this double-standard is because he is Muslim, but because he is not nearly the cash cow for Dana White that Conor is.
I am glad they finally gave him his belt, and I hope they will pay him. And I am quite sure his father will give him a proper smack down back in Dagestan for his misbehaviour after the fight.
