The Democrats and Liberals who immediately expressed outrage over the reports of the #JussieSmollett “attack” seem to have adopted a uniform response to the news that it was all a hoax; hoping to salvage themselves from the embarrassment and exonerate themselves from having reacted prematurely before the facts were in.
They are all saying “this is terrible because now real victims of hate crimes will find it harder to be believed”.
OK, think about that. They are essentially saying that their initial response to the alleged attack on Jussie Smollett was correct, and that because of this hoax, they won’t be able to jump directly to outrage anymore, but will actually have to wait for the results of an investigation — like that is a bad thing.
No, sorry, even if the Smollett incident WASN’T a hoax, any reaction to it was premature and inappropriate until the facts were known. If this fake attack is going to make people remember that allegations are supposed to be proven before you react to them; good. Someone who claims to have been a victim has a right to have their allegations taken seriously enough to be investigated; that’s it. They do not have the right to anyone’s outrage unless and until that investigation proves their allegations true.
Basically, Liberals are bemoaning the Smollett hoax because it threatens to resurrect the outdated practice of evidencing accusations.
