There are two narratives about what is happening in Xinjiang, and both are propaganda.
What can be concluded is that SOMETHING is happening in Xinjiang, and it includes the forcible rounding up of Uighurs indiscriminately, and putting them into what are probably severe indoctrination centres for indefinite periods; which is being done as a response to Beijing’s perception of the separatist threat which is backed by the US government.
Is it heavy handed, inhumane, unjust, disproportionate, and an abuse of human rights?
Obviously.
Will it solve their problem?
Obviously not.
Is it relatively moderate by Beijing’s standards?
Yes. Google Mao’s Cultural Revolution.
Does the US and the Uighur separatist movement have vested interests in exaggerating what is happening?
Obviously
Has the US used the Uighur Separatist movement to antagonise Beijing?
Of course they have
Have the Uighur separatists benefited from their relationship with the US financially and otherwise, while conforming with US policy goals vis-a-vis China, while simultaneously putting the Uighurs in Xinjiang at risk?
Again, of course they have
Is an independent East Turkistan a good idea?
Not even remotely
Is the US interested in an independent East Turkistan?
Not even remotely
Is the US interested in Uighur human rights?
Are you kidding?
Are US-funded Uighur separatist groups interested in Uighur human rights?
I doubt it. Beijing’s repression is an absolute bonanza for them If Beijing isn’t bad enough, they will claim they are anyway
Is it realistic then to think that the US and its paid Uighur propagandists will contribute to a solution for the repression in Xinjiang?
Unlikely
