What is happening in Algeria is very interesting. I have no doubt that the government (the entrenched elites and the army) are keen to restructure the economy and open the country to foreign investment and multinational corporations , and probably to capitulate to the usual raft of Neoliberal reforms that go along with that; but the sustained protest movement is scuppering those objectives.
I hope that the protesters will emphasize economic demands as well as demands for political reform.
