When your testing is limited, the ratios will be higher; wherever testing has been broader, the ratio is drastically reduced. Anyone who is telling you the rates of fatality or hospitalization based solely on the number of confirmed cases is intentionally trying to mislead and frighten you.
The real rate of infection, as of mid March in the US, according to the estimated level of the contagiousness of the virus would have put the number of total infections above 6 million, which would put the fatality rate at around 0.001%
