What I can say regarding the Omar Suleiman border protest controversy involving un-Islamic actions which, undoubtedly, Suleiman participated in without realizing the ramifications, is this:
If Muslims want to be involved in protests or other such “social justice” activism alongside non-Muslims; don’t be afraid to set some ground rules on what you are willing to participate in, and what the boundaries are of your interactions during the event. That should eliminate the risk of inadvertently being involved in things that compromise your Deen.
