I have had people cut off acquaintances with me because I said “al-Hamdulillah” during a conversation, which, in their mind, meant I must be deeply religious and judgmental. I have, of course, been “randomly” checked at airports because I had a big beard and wore traditional Muslim clothing. I have been told in America — my own country — to “go back to Iran”. And etc, etc. Islamophobia? I suppose so. But ask me how much I let it bother me.
