Without having done any research, I would assume that overall Internet traffic has declined since the rise of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. These four platforms must surely dominate online activity to an extent where people do not surf the web as much as they used to. Is it conceivable that website hosting platforms could, for lack of a better word, unionize or in some other manner collaborate to promote greater diversification of people’s Internet activity?

Everyone who now writes on FB or Twitter, or who uploads videos and pictures to YouTube and Instagram, a few years ago would have created their own blogs and websites. The four big platforms facilitate audience and visitor accumulation, making personal websites less attractive. Because sharing and promotion are so much easier on these platforms, it makes building an audience for a personal website seem more difficult. Could that be addressed somehow?
